To preface, I did a little googling and found nothing quite close to what I’m attempting to explain here. So bear with me and let’s explore the unexplored together this week.
Have you ever heard of a Birth Streak?
My goal with this newsletter is to create a new way of celebrating our birthdays. Our birthdays can be something we can celebrate year-round, we just have to get a little creative with our approach.
I often find myself overwhelmed with the time of year in which my birthday takes place (December 27th), right around the holidays, just as the new year rolls in. Leading me to contemplate, what am I hoping to accomplish this year, just as we all do.
I’ll be honest, I am of the belief that no years resolution is the way to go. Putting the pressure on oneself to believe that drastic change can happen in a year, is something that I want to challenge however.
However, if you set yourself a Birth Streak. You are setting yourself up for actionable success that you can start today.
So Adam, what the heck is a Birth Streak? I’ll use myself as an example.
On Decemeber 27th, I turned 28 years old. This year I am challenging myself to workout 28 days in a row to celebrate these 28 years I’ve been living. The main rule with striving towards this challenge is it has to be completed before I turn 29.
Make sense?
A Birth Streak is the goal of reaching a streak towards the time in which you’ve been here.
Birth Streak Examples.
Perhaps you are turning 33 years old this year. Why not spend 33 days in a row meditating?
How about turning 93? Why not paint a picture 93 days in a row?
How about turning 55? Why not read 1 chapter 55 days in a row?
How about turning 21? Why not finish 1 beat a day for your music production the next 21 days?
How about turning 38? Why not playing catch with your son 38 days in a row?
Are you getting the point?
Did your streak end? No sweat. You can always start over again, the main rule being that you have to reach your streak before the end of the year.
Your Birth Streak is Something You Can Do Every Year.
This is the first year that I’m implementing this rule in my life, but it seems relatively simple to achieve throughout the rest of my life.
As we evolve as humans in terms of our interests, time commitments and circumstances, perhaps the “Birth Streak” will be less glamorous. However, I think creating a personalized ritual in which we tend to a goal a certain amount of days in a row to celebrate our birthdays is something worth celebrating.
I’m excited to see what challenge I can come up with for next year. I’m also excited for the birth streak I strive towards at the ages of 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and the MEGA birthday 100 years old. If I encode this early enough in my life, as I’m attempting to do at the age of 28, this is a practice I’m excited to share the rest of my life with others.
My goal this year is to workout at the gym 28 days in a row. Currently I’m 17 days through, more than halfway through my goal. Some days tending to my Birth Streak is the easiest thing to do, whereas others it’s the hardest. I’m not going to let ANYTHING stop me.
So why not set a Birth Streak to go after to celebrate your birthday this year? Set a challenging Birth Streak, and strive towards it. We really can live each day as our birthday.
Create your Birth Streak. And Go For It. What do you have to lose?
Reply to this email or shoot me a text with your Birth Streak that you invented! I’m really curious to see what you all can come up with to celebrate another year on the miracle that is planet earth.
