Hey friends - Adam here.
Music is a startup & everyday we face a choice.
Do we put some incremental work towards our long-term goals? Or do we push it off until the weekend? Or do we push it off until next week? the following month?
The more we push it off.. the harder it becomes. The sooner we do it, the easier our lives tend to become. As well as the closer to our goals we get.
UPDATES
Hereās some updates from my end this week.
This week I scheduled the release of my latest song āTime Travelingā to be ready for all streaming platforms by February 10th, 2022. 7 Short days away!
Click here to be able to pre-save my latest tune to your Spotify account.
(You can hear this song early, as itās the first track on my latest BARTYDARTY mix. Hint: thereās lots of piano.)
Typically when it comes to getting music uploaded to streaming platforms I had used the third party Tunecore. However this time around, I used Distrokid.
One of the features with Distrokid, I am stoked about is the āHyperfollowā function.
By clicking on this link, it allows you to automatically follow me on Spotify, as well as automatically pre-save my song, so that way the day it comes out it will already be in your liked songs.
This is minimizing the friction it takes to find my music essentially.
Which as an artist is quite the appealing thing as itās hard to get a message out on an increasingly noisy internet.
FIRST GIG of 2022
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to travel to Denver in the coming weeks, as I have been fortunate enough to stumble into being chosen to perform at the afterparty for ETHDenver with a group of DJ friends I met online via DJ DAO.
The performance is at Temple Denverās Mirus Gallery on Sunday, February 20th. This after party runs from 8PM-2AM and will consist of two different one hour sets from myself, which you can bet Iāll preparing heavily for over the next couple weeks.
Perhaps carving a niche as a crypto conference afterparty DJ could be the move for me? Especially as I begin to lay the groundwork for really doubling-down into making a career as a music man.
Itāll also be a fun opportunity to debut some of the unreleased songs Iāve been working on, as well as getting acclimated with equipment I have yet to use before.
Hereās a screenshot of the XDJ-XZ which will be provided by the venue for a portion of my performance that will be played at the Gallery.
Iām thankful that this piece of equipment is Serato DJ Pro compatible, as this is the DJING software I typically use.
Whereas, for the second portion of my performance Iāll be using the CDJ-2000NXS2, which weirdly enough even though itās smaller, I actually am more worried about using this LOL.
Due to me never using rekordbox before, I am going to dedicate a good portion of this weekend getting acclimated to this software so I will be fully prepared come February 20th.
The Future of BARTYDARTY
Diving further into the startup that is becoming a musician has already led me to unexpected places. I am SO stoked to see where it leads me in the coming years.
One thing Iād like to use this newsletter for in the coming future is to establish goals more for the long-term with my involvement in music.
I already determined I wanted to use this newsletter as a forcing function for creating a debut album or moreso.. creating the commitment to take action towards music on a daily basis. (Building in Public OATH)
While simultaneously deciding that releasing new music every 3 weeks could help concretize my commitment to music with a 2022 Release Schedule.
Nextā¦ I am thinking more along the lines of hosting a BARTYDARTY at a local venue (preferably in Detroit) area over the summer. How dope would it be to rent out a shed at the Detroit Eastern Market for an event like this?
How about creating a label and naming it BARTYDARTY? What about creating a venue and naming it BARTYDARTY?
Should I rename this newsletter to BARTYDARTY?
ā¦..
Progress happens by putting ridiculous ideas out there such as these above and then exploring how to make them happen.
Keep dreaming and building towards your most outlandish ideas, youād be surprised by the progress you can make in a year.
Time for me to make some more dirty beats. Talk soon š
Cheers to lifelong learning,
Adam Bartley (@bartadamley)
PARTING NOTE
If you're enjoying āThe Freelance Graduate Studentā newsletter, I would really love it if you shared it with a homie or two. You can send them here to subscribe. I try my very best to put out creative ideas each week, and I hope you have as much fun reading them as I do writing them.
If you find any links relevant to the previous writing I have put out, or have any comments just reply to this post. (This is encouraged too by the way.)
